By Jessica Fox

Clutter is not classified as a significant reason that leads to stress. It is important to understand that clutter plays a role in how people feel about their homes and workplace. Cluttered spaces make you feel stressed or draw your attention away from your main agenda. It is difficult to find something in a pile of unwanted stuff around the house. This makes you feel tired and anxious, reasons you should avoid extreme cluttering. Below are few steps to overcome the negative effects of clutter.

De-cluttering your home or office is simple. Start by clearing unwanted things. It is obvious you have outgrown or no longer use some items in your home. Go through each item carefully to identify what you should keep. If you are not sure of throwing away an item, place it in a sorting pile. Avoid keeping things like old magazines you have not read for many years.

Remember, cluttering is the habit of keeping unwanted items in a disorderly manner. The most affected part of your home is the closet. It contains items that are rarely used. Take time to inspect closets and decide which clothes are fit for your daily routine. Put items that seem worn out or small in a carton. You can sort these items later after cleaning the closet and arranging what is left.

Clutter piles up quickly in areas that do not receive much attention. Some areas like bedrooms are always messy, especially, under the beds. Check under beds, remove everything you consider clutter and place it in a sorting bin. Clean the space and arrange what is left in the right place.

The next step is usually tiresome and time-consuming. Ask a close friend or relative to help you sort clutter. If you feel comfortable doing the work alone, create space within the house for the sorting exercise. Take a close look at each item to determine if it is worth keeping. It is difficult to identify what should remain in the house and what should go to the store or charity. However, you can make wise decisions if you consider some factors.

There are several things you need to consider when choosing items. Ask yourself if you really need an item, when you intend to use it or how it affects you emotionally. Asking yourself these questions helps determine what is worth keeping.

It is easy to overcome extreme clutter without difficulty if you divide sorting piles into three categories. The first category should include things you use on a daily basis. Make use of a bowl to place car keys, pens, and other small items. Tools should be placed in a toolbox and shoe accessories in a small box. This makes the place tidy and helps you find something without much difficulty.

Go through clothes and shoes before keeping them in the garage. Garments worn at least once a month should be stored safely in cloth hangers or drawers inside, garage. Your final group contains items you have no intention of using. Subdivide such items into two groups. One entails items that are in good order. This should be given to the less fortunate. The second group contains items that are in bad shape and can be thrown or recycled.
